Keeping the same flight price of $850 and doubling the price for accommodations, transport, food and activities, the average cost for traveling to Bali is around $2800 (USD) for two weeks for two people.
With this amount, you’ll be able to stay in a mid-range hotel, eat out for every meal and enjoy some of the island’s best activities.
Of course, this is just an estimate. Depending on your travel plans and the time you go to Bali, your total costs may be higher or lower. Listed below are some of the things that will affect the cost of your trip.
How much are flights to Bali ?
Some factors need to be considered when booking a ticket to Bali. And of course, where you live is the first one.
If you’re flying from the United States, you can expect to spend around $1,500 on return flights on average.
It may vary depending on:
- your departure city; for example, flights from New York are generally more expensive than flights from Los Angeles
- the airline you choose.
If you’re flying from Europe or Australia, your airfare will be cheaper depending on your route and layovers. Layovers are a good way to save some money when booking your trips. I dedicated a whole article on this subject that you can find here.
For example, return flights from London to Bali start at around $700, but can go up to $1500+ if you’re looking for a more direct route.
The best would be to be flexible with your travels dates and I recommend to always try to book your flights in advance. You may be able to get cheaper seats.
How much is accommodation in Bali ?
In Bali, there are accommodation options for every budget.
From single bed in a shared room of a hostel to world-class luxury villas with infinity pools and jungle views.
I’ve estimated the nightly price to be around $80, which is what you can expect to pay for a 3-star nice hotel in a central location. Of course, this price can both go higher or lower depending on your travel style.
Hostels prices generally start at around $15 (USD) per night. Luxury hotels can cost more than $300 (USD) per night. There are also plenty of mid-range and budget hotels starting at $20-50 per night. But Free WiFi is included in all accommodations.
Airbnbs are also a popular option and prices start at around $50 (USD) per night.
How much is transport In Bali ?
Getting around Bali is relatively cheap and easy – the most popular way to get around is by scooter which you can rent for as little as $5 (USD) per day.
While it is the best deal money-wise, it can be dangerous and should not be considered if you have no scooter driving experience.
Keep in mind if you plan on renting a scooter in Bali, you will need an international driver’s license.
Some great Uber-like apps also exist: Grab and Gojek that you can use for shorter distances. Just be careful, because sometimes the drivers will not be able to pick you up in certain areas (close to the tourist beaches, for example).
How much is food in Bali ?
Local food is very affordable, with meals costing as little as $2 or $3. Of course you’ll also find western food, but it is more expensive, with main courses starting at around $10.
I totally recommend to try as much street food as possible ! First of all, it’s delicious and second, it is one of the best ways to experience the culture of Bali !
How much to tip in Bali ?
In Bali, tipping is generally not expected.
Many restaurants in the more touristy spots, will include a service charge in the bill by default – so make sure to check if you don’t want to tip more than expected.
But if you feel that the service you have been offered is worth a tip, then feel free to add 10-15%.
How much is a beer in Bali ?
A small bottle of Bintang, the traditional Indonesian beer, will be around 30,000 IDR (Indonesian Rupiah) in a restaurant, which is around $2.
The larger bottle of Bintang will usually cost 55,000 IDR, or approximately $3.50.
How much are activities in Bali ?
Bali is absolutely splendid and many attractions across the island are natural and free to explore. From waterfalls to beaches to rice terraces; the landscape is breathtaking. Obviously, a few spots do come with small fees.
Most activities that require an entrance fee, are relatively inexpensive – you won’t spend more than $10 for an entry ticket.
Bali is also the place to be for scuba diving. If you are a fan of the sport or just curious, I highly recommend you do at least a couple of dives.
Average scuba diving costs are approximately $100-$120/day for two dives including lunch, transportation and equipment rentals.
